ABOUT LIPITOR
LIP IT O R is a prescription m edicine. A long w ith diet and
exercise, it lowers “ bad” cholesterol in your blood. It can also
raise “ good” cholesterol (H D L -C ).
LIP IT O R can low er the risk b f heart attack, stroke, certain
types o f heart surgery, and chest pain in patients w ho have
heart disease o r risk factors fo r heart disease such as:
* age, sm oking, high blood pressure, low H D L -C , fa m ily
history o f early heart disease
L IP IT O R can lo w e r the risk o f heart attack or stroke in
patients w ith diabetes and risk factors such as diabetic eye or
kidney problem s, sm oking, or high blood pressure.
POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS OF LIPITOR
Serious side effects in a sm all num ber o f people:
• M uscle problem s that can lead to kidney problems, including
kidney failure. Y our chance fo r m uscle problem s is higher
i f you take certain other m edicines w ith L IP IT O R .
• L iv e r problem s. Y our doctor m ay do blood tests to check
your live r be lore you start L IP IT O R and w h ile you arc
taking it.
Call your doctor right away if you have:
• Unexplained m uscle weakness or pain, especially i f you
have a fever or feel very tired
• A lle rg ic reactions including s w e llin g b f the face, lips,
tongue, and/or throat that m ay cause d iffic u lty in breathing
Oils w a ll ow ing w hich m ay require treatm ent right away
• Nausea, vom iting, or stomach pain
• B row n o r dark-colored urine
• Feeling m ore tired than usual
• Your skin and the w hites o f your eyes tu rn ye llo w
• A lle rg ic skin reactions
C om m on side e ffe c ts of LIPITO R are:
• Diarrhea
• M uscle and jo in t pain
• Upset stomach
* Changes in some blood tests
HOW TO TAKE LIPITOR
Do:
* Take L IP IT O R as prescribed by your doctor.
* T ry to eat heart-healthy foods w hile you take LIP IT O R .
* Take LIP IT O R at any tim e o f day, w ith or w ithout food.
* M you m iss a dose, take it as soon as you rem em ber. But
if it has been m ore than
12 hours since yo u r m issed dose,
w a il Take the next dose at y o u r regular tim e.
D on’t:
* Do not change o r stop your dose before talking to your doctor.
* Do not start new medicines before talking to your doctor.
* Do not give your L IP IT O R to other people. It may harm
them even if your problem s are the same,
* D o not break the tablet,
